Label TextIn 1954 American Robert Frank Borkenstein (1912–2002) invented the Breathalyzer. It used chemical oxidation and photometry to provide a reliable blood alcohol concentration (BAC) reading. Its introduction resulted in a 1969 amendment to the Criminal Code. Now, it was illegal to operate a motor vehicle with a BAC of more than 80 mg of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood or .08.
