“London, Canada, 1855” mirror

Label TextDonor Catherine McEwen received the mirror as a gift from Esther Kininmonth, Sheffield, Massachusetts, whose family originally was from London, for doing genealogical research for her. The mirror had been in Esther’s family but she has no idea how or when it was acquired. The image on the back of the mirror is of an engraving from a drawing done by E. Whitefield in 1855. On the larger lithograph is the following text: “Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1855 by E. Whitefield, in the Clerks office of the district Court of the Southern district of New York.; l.c.: LONDON, CANADA WEST. / London, Published by E. Whitefield 1855.; (key) l.l.: 1 The Royal Exchange / 2 Court House and Jail / 3 R. Cath, Church / 4 English, Church / 5 Wesleyan Church / 6 Scotch Church in the distance; l.r.: 7 City Hall / 8 Covent Garden Market / 9 Congregational Church in the distance / 10 New Hotel near the Railway Depot / 11 Gas Works….”
