Label TextThis doll represents a Victoria Hospital School of Nursing “probie,” or probationer. Most hospital schools of nursing insisted on a probationary period for new students. At Victoria Hospital, it at first lasted four months and later six months. The Superintendent of Nurses then evaluated each probationer’s understanding of theory and practice. With her approval, they continued their studies and received their school’s nursing cap.
