Cigar Box, Bastlas Leader
Credit LineCollection of Museum London, 1991
Object number1991.039.018
Label TextThis Bastla’s Leader cigar box was designed to look like a book. Its spine is printed with a compulsory legal notice, which appeared on the bottom of most boxes. The four points dictate that the
1) revenue stamp must be broken upon opening;
2) package is not to be reused after being emptied of cigars;
3) contents are not to be removed except for immediate sale; and
4) package and revenue stamp are to be destroyed after emptying.
Lucky for us people ignored this notice. Many cigar boxes survive today.
