Label TextEaton’s department store opened in Toronto in 1869 and expanded across Canada, opening multiple locations. A 5-story Eaton’s opened in London at 335 Wellington Street, as part of “Wellington Square,” which is now Citi Plaza. It became part of the first enclosed downtown mall in North America. Despite working against competitors, business began to decline in the 1980s. Eaton's declared bankruptcy in 1999 and the London store closed shortly after.
