Label TextJadwiga Liszewski brought this skirt with her from Poland to Canada in 1966. Her mother had knitted it with wool she had spun on a spinning wheel and dyed. Jadwiga emigrated with her husband, Zenon, and their two children. Zenon’s sister had sponsored the family, as a 1962 Order-in-Council allowed. The Liszewski family joined London’s substantial Polish community, which had been growing since the early 20th century. Although challenging, the Liszewski’s adjusted to their new city and culture.
