Label TextLondoner Sarah Edmonds Dampier (1827-1910), the grandmother of the donor, owned this dress. Sarah was married to John Ludwell Dampier (1820-1909) who is listed in the 1856 London Directory as accountant of the Bank of Upper Canada, Ridout St., north of Carling. The Dampiers had married in Montreal in 1850. At some point before 1853, the couple moved to London from Montreal in a stage coach. Family lore records that they remembered the coming of the railway to London in December 1853.
