Label TextThis 1840s wooden arrow-back chair still features its original finish and stenciling. Look at the painted lines encircling the front legs. To indicate where to attach the stretchers needed to give the chair strength and stability, its maker had incised faint lines. They chose to turn a remnant of the construction process into a decorative element.
