Label TextThis Victorian two-piece lace and satin outfit belonged to Mary Ann Drake McClary, wife of businessman John McClary, of McClary Manufacturing Company. During this time period close-fitting bodices with narrow waists, and bell-shaped skirts that fit smoothly over the hips were common. Bodices with voluminous shoulders and tight, long sleeves helped create a favoured silhouette. This silhouette replaced the hourglass shape and dramatic bustles that had been popular earlier in the century.
