Label TextThis circa 1870 blanket is home-grown. Archibald MacPherson, a farmer with property on Lot 10, Westminster Township, raised the sheep that provided the wool. The wool had to be carded. This process opened the fibres, cleaned them, and prepared them for spinning on a spinning wheel. A weaver next wove the yarn into fabric. The seam you see in the blanket shows that the loom wasn’t big enough to make a blanket of the desired size. Two pieces of fabric had to be stitched together.
