Label TextThis portrait of the late Bishop George Nasmith Luxton (1901-1970) was authorized to be painted by Clare Bice (1908-1976) from photographs. After the painting had been completed, Mr. Bice made two slight changes in it: the black wrist-bands were changed to red to match the chimere, and the Bishop's eyes were made blue instead of brown.
Clare Bice grew up in London and earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and English from the University of Western Ontario in 1928. He served as the curator of the Williams Memorial Art Gallery and Museum, which would eventually become Museum London, from 1940-1972.
