Label TextThis portrait of Bishop Cronyn was completed by Clare Bice (1908-1976) for the Diocesan Centennial in 1957. From Ireland, Benjamin Cronyn (1802-1871) emigrated to Canada in 1832 and became the first bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Huron in 1857. Cronyn founded Huron University College in 1863. Artist Clare Bice grew up in London and earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and English from the University of Western Ontario in 1928. He served as the curator of the Williams Memorial Art Gallery and Museum, which would eventually become Museum London, from 1940-1972.
