Label TextSamuel Peters, Jr. (1822-1882) was an English-born civil engineer and architect active in London and Western Ontario. Peters came to London, Upper Canada, in 1849, likely encouraged by his uncle, also Samuel Peters. In Canada, Peters Jr worked as a provincial land surveyor and engineer. In 1852, he became London’s town engineer. He subsequently designed many buildings in London. These included his uncle’s home, Grosvenor Lodge, Covent Garden Market, and London’s City hall. By 1860, he opened his office where he advertised himself as “Provincial Land Surveyor, Architect, and Civil Engineer.” He worked for the next 20 years, bringing his sons into the business. Together they designed almost 100 commercial, residential, ecclesiastical, and institutional buildings in London and the wider region.
