Label TextClarence John Donnelly (1888-1976), cheese maker at the Scottsville Cheese Factory, won this Western Fair trophy in 1913. London's 'Ye Olde Firm' Heintzman & Company, a firm that sold pianos, sponsored this prize. Many other firms acted as sponsors as well. It was yet another way to raise their profile. As for large-scale factory cheese-making, the introduction of the cream separator in the 1860s enabled this. It replaced individual producers—mostly farmwomen—who could not meet the demands of growing markets.
