Label TextIn 1909, Young’s Base Ball Club of the [London] City League won this Beck trophy for having won the championship for the second year. In 1909, the City League was composed of four teams: the Stars, Ramblers, Rockets, and Youngs. According to a July 17, 1909, "London Advertiser" article, "the Youngs walloped the Ramblers to win the City League." The Honourable (later Sir) Adam Beck had presented the trophy bearing his name to the City Base Ball League to show his support for the sport. Baseball had been popular in London for decades.
