Label Text401 at Highbury Avenue, Looking Northwest 1963 The Highbury Avenue cloverleaf interchange and highway 401 overpass, here still under construction, opened in December 1963. Workers later extended Highbury Avenue to St. Thomas. The E. V. Buchanan hydro substation (middle) sits east of Pond Mills Road and north of the highway. Pond Mills (top, right) is nearby. In the 1970s, the city acquired these two kettle ponds as well as the Westminster Ponds, creating an environmentally sensitive area.
