Label TextOn January 30, 1927, the main Western Fair exhibition building, the Crystal Palace, burned to the ground, the victim of an arsonist. The George Durand building had been erected in 1887 when the Western Fair moved from Victoria Park to Queens Park. Durand's structure borrowed many features from Joseph Paxton's famous iron and glass Crystal Palace designed for the Great Exhibition in London, England, in 1851. Durand's Crystal Palace was replaced by the red brick Confederation Building.
