Label TextOne side of this blotter features William Lyon Mackenzie King (1874-1950), Canada’s longest serving prime minister. He was in office three times: 1921-1926, 1926-1930 and 1935-1948. Some consider him to have been Canada’s greatest prime minister, in part because of his role in leading the country during the Second World War (1939-1945) and after. Others disagree in light of his government’s treatment of Japanese-Canadians during that conflict. The other side of the blotter featuers Allan Johnston. He operated a typewriter business and became a London city alderman from 1933 to 1935. He was the city's mayor from 1938 to 1940. Johnston was first elected to Parliament in the 1940 general election. After one term in the House of Commons, Johnston was defeated by Park Manross in the 1945 election.
