Label TextIn 1890, Alfred Holman and his wife, Blanche, helped found the London Amateur Operatic Association. Holman’s mother, Harriet, was a keen contributor too. They supported other theatrical endeavours in London as well. A close look at the 1891 Grand Military and Vaudeville program reveals the Holman’s name.
In 1873, the Holman English Opera Company became London’s first professional theatre group. It featured parents George and Harriet Holman, their children, Sallie, Alfred, and Julia, as well as other family members and performers. Even after the company folded, a few former members remained active in London’s amateur theatre scene.
