Label TextThere is something interesting about this bottle, with its Cowan Hardware label. It wasn't made for that business. This bottle, labelled kerosene, first contained Gooderham and Worts whiskey. As for kerosene, it could be used as a cleaner. It could be used to remove greasy residue from certain sufaces like enamal wash basins.
James Cowan, formerly an employee of Adam Hope, opened his own hardware store at 127 Dundas Street in 1875.
