Label TextThis simple white dress was worn by Lila Shaw's two sons, between 1877-1888. At the time, toddler boys and girls were dressed nearly alike in short-waisted dresses with full skirts. The dresses were often plain solid colours, sometimes with details like lace, buttons, or ribbons. "Breeching" was the occasion when a boy was first dressed in breeches or trousers. This would typically occur at age five or six.
