Label TextThis plaid mini-dress or pinafore is from the Toronto-based brand Nu-Mode. The company was founded in 1950 by Fred Singer, who came from a Polish-Jewish family that immigrated to Canada in the 1900s, and his cousin, Henry Zagdanski, a Holocaust survivor who came to Toronto in 1946. Nu-Mode had small-scale operations until 1967, when they were acquired by Dylex Diversified and expanded manufacturing. The cousins managed the company until 1997, when they sold it to a former employee and Nu-Mode remained in operation until 2019.
